Juliet

Experience internationally renowned choreographer Robert Sher-Machherndl premiere’s his latest work JULIET. He takes inspiration from human behavior and interaction in a fast paced digital age. Meet the characters Juliet, Hanna, and Klaus Maria as they interpret new and unimagined movement language, taking the audience on a powerful and emotional journey. Distinctively innovative, JULIET reflects upon themes of connection, disconnection to intolerant action.

Award-winning architect Mike Moore joins the exploration. He takes inspiration from illuminated device screens, and creates a floating light cube in the state-of-the-art 5,000 sq ft gymnasium. The audience is seated around the illuminated shape, and the performance takes place inside. Suspension tape divides the entire performance space, transforming it to an engaging, interactive environment for the public.

"One of ten contemporary companies you should be obsessed with" - Dance Spirit Magazine

"Funny, dark, and provocative, 'Trust' was a highlight of the program" - The New York Times

"Explosive, aggressive, beautiful, and in control. It's the voice he's been developing for some 40 years" - Denver Magazine

Over the past 18 years, Lemon Sponge Cake Contemporary Ballet has evolved into a platform for artistically addressing, and reflecting to its audiences, relevant global and human rights issues affecting the world we live in today.

Oracle

Zikr Dance Ensemble's 2019 Season is entitled "Oracle" and will feature the world premiere of a new work by Artistic Director David Taylor of the same name.

The inspiration of "Oracle" comes from the Greek legend of the Oracle of Delphi, the most important shrine in all of Greece and considered to be the omphalos - the center (literally navel) of the world. The legends claimed that the Pythia, the high priestess of Apollo, sat upon a tall gilded tripod that stood above the opening of a large chasm in the subterranean rocks of Delphi. In a frenzied state induced by vapors of the decomposed Python rising from a chasm in the rocks, she gave prophecies to supplicants from all over the world in her own voice.

Also on the program will be a reprise of Zikr's critically acclaimed "Runes" and the audience favorite, "In Your Eyes"

2018's Runes has been called a "Masterpiece" by audience members.
"One of David's best works yet".

Juxtaposition

The Hannah Kahn Dance Company will present “Juxtaposition” and Other Dances at the Dairy Arts Center on June 22 and 23, 2019. The eleven company dancers will bring to fruition seven works including a premiere set to music of Denver’s own Chappell Kingsland, composer and faculty member at the Lamont School of Music. The program will also include Kahn’s 2018 work Juxtaposition, set to music of Daniel Kellogg, a professor at the College of Music at the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Choreographer Hannah Kahn is working with the dancers to recreate several dances from the last few decades including Concerto (1993), excerpts from Over Under Around and Through (2006) and Complete the Circuit (2009). Kahn works with her notes from the period when she originally choreographed the dances and videos of the original cast to painstakingly bring the material back to life. Small changes and improvements are incorporated as the dancers work to make the movement material their own, and the old dances are reborn.

“Go for Broke” (1988) and 3 excerpts from “Constellations” (2001), which were staged for Denver performances in 2018, will complete the program.
